2009: Music
My music tastes evolved a lot in the past year. I wouldn’t say they changed because I still love the poppy sounds of Fall Out Boy and Green Day, but may prefer the typical rock ‘n roll sounds of the Kings of Leon or Arctic Monkeys now. I’m always mentally debating my favorite bands of all time, or the music that I will demand my children listen to most. Listing, re-listing, editing…things that shouldn’t matter to most people but matter the world to me. In 2009 I think that list became a lot more defined, as of now, it looks like this:

2. Fall Out Boy
3. Weezer
4. The Killers
5. Kings of Leon
6. Motion City Soundtrack
7. Limbeck
8. Brand New
9. Valencia
10. Arctic Monkeys
In the past this list would change annually, but I would bet a year from now that list will still be fairly accurate.
For 2009 specifically I was a bit surprised. When thinking of album of the year I was sure a year ago the list would include the names Weezer, Green Day, Brand New and Arctic Monkeys, however none of which made the final cut. Instead the list is comprised of bands I started listening to this year, albums that I could connect more emotionally with than 8th Green Day album or another angst-filled Brand New album.

2010 doesn’t appear to be a let down either, as new music from Motion City Soundtrack, The Graduate, Jimmy Eat World, My Chemical Romance, Coheed and Cambria, Valencia and The Audition all is in the works. I’m excited to say the least.
