Vineyard Visit
I woke up Friday morning, looked out the window, and saw snow. I was surprised, but didn’t think much of it. As my classmates and I were waiting for our bus that would take us to a vineyard about an hour outside Rome I learned this was Rome’s first snow in over a decade. This made sense as all Roman’s had no idea what to do. Everyone was late, our bus left over an hour late.
Once we were out of the city I saw what I envisioned Italy would look like. Hills, trees, country, etc.

We got to the vineyard and were given a brief tour, as Italians were acting like it was -15 degrees outside. We then walked inside the vineyard where the wine was made. It was cool to see all the machinery and wine being made, but most of it went right over my head.
We then got to partake in a fun group activity. We each got to make our own combination of wine using their various house red’s. While I’m unsure ours is any good, it was a learning experience that enabled us to drink during it.
The highlight of the day for me occurred after we left the vineyard. We drove to a nearby restaurant that was very small and secluded. It was a great break from the hectic, busy restaurants of Rome.

I came to Europe with very little wine knowledge at all. Now, I can tell the difference between good and bad wine. A small step, but a step nonetheless. I hoped I could tell the type of wine by taste, and tell the difference between a good, great and fantastic wine, but hopefully that will come with time and practice. After a few weeks of studying wine I am content with my progress.
