Tragedy

I awoke this morning after a very fun night hit with some terrible news.  As I was watching Sports Center in bed I saw that Angels’ rookie Nick Adenhart was killed in a car crash early Thursday morning.  I had never heard the name before, so didn’t think much of it.  I kept watching and learned he was Anaheim’s top prospect and saw interviews where players and coaches had nothing but praise for Adenhart.

As the day went on I thought more and more of what a tragedy it was.  Imagine the top propect in your organization dying.  White Sox fans that’s Gordon Beckham and Cubs fans that’s Jeff Samardzija.  While it’s obviously awful when anyone dies so young,in the case of a top prospect the news is much harder to swallow.  I hadn’t even heard of Adenhart until today, and I am heartbroken, I can’t imagine the Angeles fans that have developed a liking for Adenhart over the years.

In baseball many players spend years in the minors before making it to the Big League.  Because of this I have developed a number of bonds with White Sox players that have played limited Major League ball or none at all.  To see a kid finally make it and appear to be on the right track, then have it all taken away, is absolutely terrible.  It makes you think about how short life is, and how we have literally no control over many things.  Now I am going out to have some fun, I suggest you do the same.
